Books That Helped Shape Clearmind Works
These books influenced my thinking about habits, mindset, resilience, relationships, and personal transformation. While you don’t need to read all of them, each offers practical ideas that have shaped the way I approach growth and change. I wish to say ‘Thank you” to all these authors. When I started my journey, I was in a dark place, and these books help me find my way.
Atomic Habits - James Clear.
James Clear’s book was the first one that I read when I started looking for ways to change the way I thought about my life. The core takeaway from the book is that small, consistent changes lead to major life transformation. One of the most memorable quotes from the book is “You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results. There will be an affiliate link below very soon and for those that can’t wait it is available through Libby.
Radical Acceptance - Tara Brach
Tara Brach’s book core takeaway is suffering arises when we feel unworthy, disconnected, or not enough. Healing starts when we fully accept ourselves just as we are, with compassion and awareness. One of my favorite quotes is “Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.” Accepting my life as it was helped me build on it. I do consider myself a work in progress still. This book is also available through Libby.
Mindset - Carol Dweck.
Carol Dweck’s book gave me hope. She frames the distinction between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. She uses stories, studies, and reflections to illustrate how mindsets operate in different domains in life. She offers ways to recognize which mindset is guiding you now and how to shift towards a growth mindset. Most people have a mixed mindset where some things are fixed, and others can change. This book helped me to believe everything can change if you are willing to work on it. It really meshes well with the other readings. This book is also available on Libby.
The Compound Effect - Darren Hardy.
Darren Hardy’s book reinforces the idea that major life changes rarely happen overnight. It adds a lot of value by showing how small habit changes, repeated over time can improve your finances and other areas of your life. It is very focused on clear action steps to identify bad habits and replace them. He includes a lot of habit tracking sheets, expense tracking sheets, and weekly review questions that are very helpful. My favorite quote is “You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.” This book helped me understand that lasting transformation is built one day at a time. This book is available on Libby.
Grit - Angela Duckworth.
Angela Duckworth’s book introduces the idea of combining passion with perseverance and describes how this combination helps predict who will succeed in long, difficulty endeavors. Prediction alone would not make this a great book; the author argues that grit is not a fixed trait, and it can be developed over time. I have quit things on occasion, and so this book rings true to me. It gave me hope to start this company and continue building it, even when progress feels slow. My favorite quote is “Enthusiasm is common. Endurance is rare.” This book is also available on Libby.
Awaken the Giant Within - Toni Robbins.
Toni Robbins is a giant in the motivation and coaching industry. In this book he argues that lasting change begins with decisions. Our lives are shaped by the choices we make repeatedly, and meaningful transformation requires taking personal responsibility for those choices. I have read several of his books and find nuggets of wisdom in all of them. This one is my favorite. My favorite quote “It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” It should be on a tee shirt. This book is available on Libby in audio form.
Find Your People - Jennie Allen.
Jennie Allen explores the idea that humans are designed for deep, consistent community and a lot of the modern problems we suffer from stem from valuing convenience over commitment. Real friendships require intentional effort, not luck. My favorite quote is “The people in your life shape the person you become.” and for this author I have a second one to share: “You were never meant to do life alone.” I still go back and forth on which one is most important to me. Read the book and pick for yourself. This book is available on Libby.
The Four Agreements - Don Miguel Ruiz.
Don Miguel Ruiz presents a framework for personal freedom based on ancient wisdom. He argues that much of human suffering comes from unconscious agreements we make with society, family, and ourselves. By replacing them with four new agreements, we reclaim clarity, peace, and authenticity. My favorite quote is “Your opinion of yourself is stronger than the opinion of others.” This book is one of the influences behind my practice of compassionate honesty. After difficult life events, it is easy to become overly concerned with what others think about us. Ruiz reminds us that true freedom comes from living according to our values rather than seeking the approval from everyone around us. This one is also available on Libby.
Resilient- Rick Hanson.
Rick Hanson postulates that resilience is built through small mental practices repeated over time. The book is based on neuroscience and neuroplasticity, showing how repeated mental experiences can physically reshape the brain. He reminds us that resilience is not something we have or do not have. It is a set of skills that can be developed over time.
My favorite quote is “You can learn to be calm when things are not calm, strong when things are hard, and happy even when life is challenging. This book offers many practical exercises to build resilience. I read this book right when I most needed it during my divorce. This book is available on Libby.
Abundance the Inner Path to Wealth - Deepal Chopra.
Deepal Chopra presents the idea that abundance is a state of consciousness, not of accumulation. Though his focus is often on money the book has much broader implications. Chopra describes a universal intelligence that wants you to have an abundant life. Scarcity he argues, is often a learned response rather than an objective reality.
He offers many practice suggestions to enrich your life not just your bank account. My favorite quote is “The experience of abundance begins with gratitude.” This idea ties in strongly with my own daily practices. This book is available on Libby in both audiobook and ebook formats.
